Training At The Kennel

Greg trains pointing dogs at the kennel located in
Spring Valley, Wisconsin when he's not in Texas or North Dakota training.

Teaching dogs steadiness to the flush is one of many things the dogs at Backwoods learn.

Puppies learn to hunt with their noses, find and point birds.  The johnny house is full of quail and chukar that are flight conditioned, so the birds get up and fly away like wild birds.

Chasing is fun!

Good flying birds are another key ingredient to successful dog training.
Quail pens are strategically placed around the farm for plenty of
bird contact for all ages of dogs.

Conditioning dogs properly can be one of the key ingredients to success in
field trials, hunt tests and hunting.  Here Greg is conditioning dogs at home.

It's a great time to get some horse training done, too!

Dogs can be trained off horseback to reproduce a field trial situation.

Backing and retrieving are part of training situations.
